PBKS middle-order batter and finisher Shashank Singh has come out with all praises for his skipper Shreyas Iyer for using Vijaykumar Vyshank properly in the team’s season opener against Gujarat Titans on Tuesday, March 25.
Interestingly, Vyshak was used when the Titans needed 75 runs in the last six overs of the chase. Though Jos Buttler and Sherfane Rutherford were at the crease, Vyshak bowled perfect lines and lengths to put both batters in check.
He started off with a five-run over, and later, he conceded another five runs in his second over. Though he conceded 18 runs in the last over, PBKS won by then by 11 runs. For this reason, Shashank hailed Iyer as one of the best captains in the world at the moment. Moreover, he also hailed the pacer for doing exceedingly well despite dew being around.
“Shreyas is someone who works on instincts as a captain, which is why he is one of the best captains in the world right now,” Shashank said in the post-match press conference.
“The way Shreyas brought in Vyshak, I felt it was the right time to bring him in. And the way he bowled—during the bowling meeting, we planned those things, and this was a planned move. The way he executed the plan was commendable because planning is one thing, and execution is another. He bowled during some tough overs, especially with the dew, and I felt that while fielding,” Shashank added.
While PBKS posted a whopping target of 244 runs for GT, the Titans could score only 232/5 in 20 overs. Iyer was named the player of the match for his unbeaten 97-run knock off 42 balls with five fours and nine sixes.
PBKS will next play against Lucknow Super Giants on Tuesday, April 1, at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium, Lucknow.
