Shreyas Iyer to lead as BCCI announces India A squad for Australia A one-day series

The Ajit Agarkar-led Indian Senior Men’s Selection Committee announced the India A squad for the three-match one-day series against Australia A as well as the Rest of India (ROI) squad for the Irani Cup on Thursday, September 25.

While India A will play their matches at Green Park in Kanpur starting from September 30, the Irani Cup will be played against Vidarbha, the champions of the Ranji Trophy 2024-25, at Vidarbha Cricket Association Stadium in Nagpur from October 1.

Additionally, the BCCI statement further revealed that the Indian middle-order batter Shreyas Iyer has opted to take a six-month break from the longest format of the game to recover well from his back surgery. Interestingly, he decided to pull out of the second unofficial Test against Australia A, which is currently underway.

“Mr Shreyas Iyer has informed the BCCI of his decision to take a six-month break from red-ball cricket. Having undergone back surgery in the UK and managed his recovery well, he has recently experienced recurring back spasms and stiffness while playing the longer format. He wishes to utilise this period to build endurance, body resilience and work on his fitness. In view of his decision, he was not considered for selection for the Irani Cup,” the BCCI statement read.
