On Sunday, January 11, the three-match ODI series between India and New Zealand is scheduled to begin in Vadodara. India captain Shubman Gill discussed what it was like to see seasoned players like Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma still performing well in the starting eleven during a news conference on the eve of the first One-Day International.

There have been reports of conflicting attitudes and viewpoints causing problems in the Indian dressing room during the struggle in the Test format. As they prepare for a pivotal three-match ODI series against New Zealand, Gill has categorically denied rumours of internal strife within the team, despite the fact that Rohit and Kohli's possible disagreement with Gambhir has been brought up even in the ODIs.

Amidst speculations of a fracture between head coach Gautam Gambhir and senior hitters Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, Shubman Gill has categorically denied any animosity within the Indian dressing room.

During a pre-match news conference on Saturday, the India captain was questioned about the team atmosphere in response to media reports that suggested the ODI system was not working well. Gill made it apparent that there are no problems between the players and the coaching staff and that the team has a great culture.

“Among the two players you have named, one is one of the greatest openers (Rohit) of all time in ODIs, and Virat bhai is one of the greatest ODI batsmen ever. So, definitely when you have these two people in your team, it makes your life a lot more easier,” Gill told reporters.

“I think the team atmosphere is amazing. The players that you named have been in this atmosphere for decades, and they are the people who always try to push Indian cricket forward,” Gill remarked. “And I think even in the last series, you saw how well they performed. So I think the atmosphere in the team is great right now.”

For India, the forthcoming series is a crucial task that will help them get ready for the 2027 ICC Cricket World Cup. The Men in Blue will try to get off to a solid start against a comparatively weak New Zealand team, with Rohit and Kohli returning to ODI play and expected to provide firepower at the top following outstanding spells at the Vijay Hazare.
