Shubman Gill etched his name in history with a heroic knock that helped India pull off a miracle to draw the fourth Test of the 2025 Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy in Manchester, giving them a chance to avoid a series-defining defeat heading into the series finale at the Oval Cricket Ground.

After England posted a massive 669 and took a 311-run lead, India lost the wickets of Yashasvi Jaiswal and Sai Sudharsan in the very first over. Joe Root made 150 and Ben Stokes made 141 for England in their massive first innings score.

Gill scored his fourth ton of the series with a knock of 103 in 238 balls, allowing India to tie the game after surrendering a 311-run advantage before falling 0-2.

Gill put on a massive 188-run partnership with KL Rahul (90) for the third wicket before Washington Sundar (101) and Ravindra Jadeja (107) added 203* runs for the fourth wicket and ensured India did not lose any more wickets.

India finished on 425/4, batting out 143 overs after losing two wickets in the first over of their innings.

Shubman Gill equals the record for most centuries by a captain in a Test series, equaling Don Bradman and Sunil Gavaskar

The 25-year-old Gill, who is captaining India for the first time in Test cricket, hit three centuries (147, 269, and 161) before the fourth match of the series. Gill scored 12 runs in the first innings before batting brilliantly for 103 runs in the second innings under immense duress.

Gill now joins Australia’s Sir Don Bradman (1947/48) and India’s Sunil Gavaskar (1978/79), both of whom made four centuries in a Test series while captaining their teams, respectively. Bradman had achieved this feat for Australia in the Test series against England, while Gavaskar did the same when India faced the West Indies.

While Bradman and Gavaskar scored four tons in a Test series as captain at home, Shubman Gill became the first captain to score four Test centuries as captain in an away series.

Captains To Hit 4 Centuries In A Test Series:

Donald Bradman vs India, 1947/48 (H), - 4

Sunil Gavaskar vs West Indies, 1978/79 (H) - 4

Shubman Gill vs England, 2025 (A) - 4
