“Very few players…” - Shubman Gill opens up on Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma playing ICC ODI World Cup 2027

Team India captain Shubman Gill has opened up on the chances of the Indian batting duo Virat Kohli & Rohit Sharma playing the ICC ODI World Cup 2027 in South Africa, Zimbabwe, and Namibia.

Speaking at the pre-match press conference before the second Test against the West Indies, Gill asserted that the veteran batting duo has been in the mix for the forthcoming mega event in 2027.

"The experience that they have and the matches they have won for India is really valuable. Very few players provide this skill and experience. They are definitely in the mix (for the World Cup 2027)," Shubman Gill said.

Furthermore, Gill also revealed that he was well aware of his appointment as the new ODI captain, replacing Rohit Sharma for the forthcoming ODI series against Australia, adding that he is very excited to lead the country in the fifty-over format. 

I knew a little before it (captaincy for ODIs) was announced. I’m very excited to lead my country in this format. I’m looking forward to the future and staying as present as possible. I will do my best in the upcoming series,” he added.

India will lock horns with Australia in the three-match ODI series vs Australia, starting on October 19. Later, they will also play a five-match T20I series against the Aussies.
