“He has age on his side” - Sourav Ganguly feels Abhimanyu Easwaran can take up No.3 slot in Tests

Former Indian captain Sourav Ganguly feels the Bengal batter Abhimanyu Easwaran would be a perfect fit for the vacant No.3 slot in the Indian Test team. Notably, India tried Sai Sudharsan and Karun Nair for that particular position in the recently concluded Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy.

It’s worth noting that Easwaran received his maiden call-up to the Indian Test squad in December 2022 for the Bangladesh tour. However, he is yet to get his debut cap in the playing XI for over two and a half years.

Surprisingly, 15 other players have debuted for India after Easwaran got his maiden call-up to the Indian squad. In his exclusive conversation with TOI, Ganguly felt that No.3 would be the perfect spot for Easwaran.

"He has age on his side. I still believe he will get his chance. I feel batters like Yashasvi, KL Rahul, Rishabh Pant, Ravindra Jadeja, have all got runs. It's only the No.3 slot that looked a bit fragile. Maybe Easwaran will be tried there," Ganguly told The Times of India.

Recently, Easwaran’s father also publicly commented on his son not making his debut despite making it to the squad two years earlier. He added that Gambhir assured that his son would get his chances in the playing XI. 

"Gautam Gambhir, when he spoke to my son, he assured him, see you, you're doing the right kind of things, you'll get your turn, you'll get a long run. I'm not the one who will push you out after one or two matches. I'll give you a long rope," Abhimanyu Easwaran's father said in an interview with Vickey Lalwani on his YouTube channel (via India Today).
