Sourav Ganguly opens up on Shubman Gill’s heroics on England tour

Former Indian captain and analyst Sourav Ganguly has opened up on the Indian Test captain, Shubman Gill, propelling Team India to level the series 1-1 against England after the team bagged a 336-run win in Birmingham.

Speaking on the sidelines of his birthday celebrations at the iconic Eden Gardens, Ganguly stated that this is the best he has seen Gill bat, and he wasn’t surprised. Furthermore, he added that Indian cricket continues to garner new talent every generation.

Notably, Gill smacked twin centuries in the Birmingham Test, winning the player of the match award. Interestingly, in four innings on the England tour so far, Gill has smacked three centuries, leading the run-scoring charts.

“This is the best I’ve seen him bat and I’m not surprised. I’ve recently said in an interview that there will always be players in Indian cricket after every generation. Whenever there’s a void, players will come and fill it. There is so much talent in Indian cricket. In every generation, you will find players,” Ganguly said.

Additionally, Ganguly has also taken the names of legendary Indian cricketers, who were replaced by the current generation of cricketers. He reckoned that whenever there is a void, the new players will come and fill it.

“After the great (Sunil) Gavaskar, Kapil Dev, (Sachin) Tendulkar, (Rahul) Dravid, (Anil) Kumble came and then (Virat) Kohli, now Gill, (Yashasvi) Jaiswal, Akash Deep, Mukesh (Kumar), (Mohammed) Siraj… just see the abundance of talent. In every generation, whenever there’s a void, they will come and fill it. I’ve always said that,” he added.

“It’s phenomenal. I hope his career will take a new direction. And I believe he’s a middle-order batter. He has just become captain, it’s a honeymoon period. But there would be more pressure with time. The pressure will build in the next three Tests.,” Ganguly later added.
