KL Rahul of the Delhi Capitals made history during Match 40 of the 2025 Indian Premier League by becoming the fastest player to reach the 5000-run mark in just 130 innings. It happened at the Ekana Cricket Stadium during his undefeated 57-run thrashing of the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG).

Rahul needed 51 runs to reach the 5000-run milestone before this game. In addition to arriving in style, he became the fastest player in IPL history by surpassing David Warner's record of 135 innings.

Rahul won the match with his amazing 57* off 42 balls. He easily chased down 160 and led DC to a commanding 8-wicket victory. At a strike rate of 135.71, his methodical approach featured two sixes and four fours.

During the knock, Rahul also moved ahead of Chris Gayle’s tally of 4965 runs, jumping into the top 8 IPL run-scorers of all time. KL Rahul had made his IPL debut in 2013 and gone on to become one of the most consistent batters in the league's history. KL Rahul now has 5006 runs in 139 IPL games. He has 4 centuries and 40 fifties in IPL with a strike rate of 135.70.

He broke the record of David Warner, the highest-scoring foreign player in IPL history. Warner reached the milestone in 135 innings. He ended his IPL career with 6565 runs in 184 games, with 4 centuries and 62 fifties to his name. His highest score was 126 runs, and his strike rate was 139.77.

Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers follow next. Kohli reached the 5,000 runs milestone in 157 innings, while De Villiers did so in 161 innings. Kohli now holds the record for most runs in IPL, with 8326 runs in 260 matches at the moment. He has 8 centuries and 59 fifties with a strike rate of 132.26.

AB de Villiers, on the other hand, retired from IPL in 2021, scoring 5162 runs at a strike rate of 151.68 with 3 centuries and 40 fifties.
