Former Indian cricketer and commentator Sunil Gavaskar has stated that the Indian pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah needs to be rested against Sri Lanka in the Super Four clash on Friday, September 26.
However, Gavaskar has asserted that Bumrah would be back for the grand finale on Sunday, September 28. While Bumrah went on to concede 45 runs in his four-over spell against Pakistan in the Super Four clash, he had a good game against Bangladesh, conceding only 18 runs and picking up two wickets in his four-over spell. Moreover, Gavaskar backed Bumrah as the best bowler across formats at the moment.
"I think only rest Jasprit Bumrah. That will be the thing. You saw him with his rhythm against Bangladesh. He might have looked off color against Pakistan, but he bowled brilliantly vs Bangladesh. Yes, he was carted for a six, but generally he bowled really well. So, he would be the only guy that you would want to rest. Then, he gets Thursday, Friday, Saturday, three days, before he comes in for the final on Sunday,” Sunil Gavaskar told India Today.
"Everybody is entitled to an off day. We all know Bumrah is the best bowler in all three formats of the game. His rhythm was very good. Sometimes, you can have one of those days. Against Bangladesh, he was absolutely fine,” he concluded.
While India defeated the UAE, Pakistan, and Oman to advance to the Super Four round by leading the points table in Group A, they continued their good winning momentum in the Super Four round by defeating Pakistan and Bangladesh in two consecutive encounters. They will next lock horns with Sri Lanka in their next game on Friday, September 26, before moving to the grand finale on Sunday, September 28
