Team India is back at their T20I assignment after winning the Asia Cup last month. The Men in Blue will play Australia in a five-match T20I series. They are prepared to give it their all because the Australian turf promises to present tough obstacles.

Although India may have easily won the Asia Cup 2025, there are still questions regarding captain Suryakumar Yadav's performance. With only 100 runs in 12 games, the right-handed hitter has not been at his best in T20Is in 2025.

The right-handed batter, who turned 35 earlier this year, Suryakumar, only scored 72 runs in six games in the eight-team event. His top score was 47 not out against Pakistan in a group stage match in Dubai.

Suryakumar made headlines at the 2025 Asia Cup, but not for his cricket skills. The talking points were his audacious remarks and quips when addressing the media or experts about the relationship with Pakistan. Unfortunately, as a hitter, he fell short of expectations. The captain was judged wanting, even if players like Abhishek Sharma successfully brought down the bowlers.

His batting is being scrutinised; there are no issues with his captaincy or fielding. That is demonstrated by T20Is' recent performance—or rather, lack thereof. Captain's form was a major worry prior to the start of the series. The Indian skipper thought back on his recent setback prior to the opening match.

“I feel like I’ve been working really hard. It’s not that I wasn’t working hard before, I was doing it then also. I’ve had good sessions back home and good few sessions here, so I am in good space, that is really important,” he said.

The message is obvious for the skipper, i.e., he needs to score runs. As they continue to get ready for the T20 World Cup 2026, India will try to maintain the momentum they gained from the Asia Cup 2025. The reigning champions, India, will try to win a record-breaking third championship. Since Suryakumar is in charge, he must set an example. One excellent place to start is with the series Down Under.
