To put it lightly, the lead-up to the ICC T20 World Cup, which is set to begin on Saturday, has been tumultuous. Following an irate Bangladesh's refusal to visit India for security reasons, which compelled the governing body to substitute Scotland, the Pakistani government shocked everyone by refusing to allow its cricket team to play in the highly anticipated match against India in Colombo on February 15.

The tweet from the Pakistani government last Sunday, which was reinforced on Thursday by their PM Shehbaz Sharif, has further agitated the situation, even though the Pakistan Cricket Board, whose chairman Mohsin Naqvi is also the Interior Minister, has not formally communicated its boycott decision to the ICC.

Regardless of Pakistan's involvement, India's T20I skipper Suryakumar Yadav has stated that the Men in Blue will travel to Colombo for the match. It was reported a few days ago that Team India had been told by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to travel to Sri Lanka for the February 15 match and remain at the venue until the match referee cancels the India vs. Pakistan match.

“Mindset is clear… humne mana nahi kiya khelne kie liye. Udhar se mana kiya hai. ICC ne fixture diya hai. Humari flight book hai Colombo ki, hum to jaa rahe hai. Baaki dekh lege,” Suryakumar said during the captain’s day in Mumbai.

Suryakumar was asked if he believed a cancellation or boycott of the India vs. Pakistan match would have an impact on the game.

"Their decision is not in my control. I wish I could take that decision," Suryakumar Yadav said. "It's their call. We have been told that we have to play a game on the 15th. We played them three times in the Asia Cup at a neutral venue. We played some good cricket, we won and we were very happy. If we get an opportunity, we will definitely play them.”
