The captains of every team gathered for a star-studded press conference on Tuesday, marking the start of the 2025 Asia Cup. Suryakumar Yadav, the captain of Team India, was largely in the spotlight as the ACC tournament became more intense.

The Asia Cup trophy was presented, and the captains of the participating teams answered questions regarding their training camps and their pre-tournament expectations. Since winning the ICC Men's T20 World Cup in 2024, Team India has dominated the game's shortest format, holding a commanding lead over the other Asia Cup sides.

Reporters were taken aback by the response when Suryakumar and Salman were questioned about the idea that India is "favourites by a distance."

"Kisne bola? Mene toh nahi suna. (Who said? I didn't hear it). Well, if your preparations are great then you are certainly confident when you take the field. Yes, we are playing after quite a while but we were here 3-4 days back. We had a good time as a team together. Really looking forward to this tournament," Suryakumar Yadav said while responding to a reporter's question.

It has been a while since India played T20Is as a team. Earlier this year, they played their last international match at home against England. But according to Suryakumar, India arrived in the UAE early and enjoyed some excellent practice sessions.

Addressing concerns about rustiness, Suryakumar added, “Yes, as a team, we played a T20I series in January and February. The boys also played the IPL. But yeah, we haven't played any cricket together since June. So, let's see what happens tomorrow.”

Salman Ali Agha, the captain of Pakistan, too, believes that India is the clear favourite. He claimed that in a fast-paced format like the T20, anything may happen. The blockbuster clash of the tournament featuring India and Pakistan will take place on September 14.
