Former Indian talismanic batter Sachin Tendulkar has come out praising the newly appointed Indian Test captain Shubman Gill for his measured and well-thought-out decisions on the field in the first two Tests of the England tour.

It’s important to note that Gill has been in impressive form with the willow, accumulating 585 runs from four innings on the England tour, including three centuries, which helped India to a 336-run win in the Birmingham Test and level the series 1-1. 

“He's been excellent - very calm and composed. I strongly believe that the rest of the ten players respond to his decisions and leadership. The choices he’s made have been measured and well thought out,” Tendulkar told Star Sports.

Moving into the details of his knocks, Gill started the series with a brilliant 147-run knock in Leeds, but he couldn’t take his side to victory as England bagged a five-wicket comfortable win. Nevertheless, his centuries - 269 and 161 in the Birmingham Test propelled India bag the biggest away win in terms of runs.

“His batting complements his captaincy as well. When a captain is in good form, it positively impacts decision-making. You need to be in the right frame of mind to make crucial calls, and he’s clearly there. He’s been batting brilliantly,” Tendulkar added.

“As the opposition, you'd normally try to target weaknesses in a batter’s technique, but right now, he’s been remarkable. What I’ve seen from him has been special,” Tendulkar stated.

It’s worth noting that the Indian Test captain Gill is currently leading the batting charts on the England tour with 585 runs at an average of 146.25 and a strike rate of 73.86. India is currently playing the third Test of the five-match Test series against England at Lord’s in London.
