The last couple of years I've forgotten what my batting position is: KL Rahul

Indian opening batter KL Rahul, who slammed an excellent century in the second innings of the ongoing Leeds Test, stated that he has forgotten what his batting position is in the last couple of years, as he has been utilized in a lot of positions of late by the Indian think tank team.

Furthermore, Rahul asserted that he is happy to take up different responsibilities and roles for Team India, which makes the game exciting and things challenging for him. He reckoned that he enjoyed opening the innings as that was something he did growing up in his career.

"The last couple of years I've forgotten what my position is and what I'm comfortable doing. I'm happy to be given different responsibilities and different roles. Makes the game exciting and makes me want to challenge myself and train that much harder and work on my game a little bit more. So I've quite enjoyed doing that,” Rahul said at the post-day press conference.

"And the last couple of series, my role has been to open the batting, and I've enjoyed doing that as well. Yeah, I mean that's something that I did growing up and all my early years as a cricketer was me opening the batting. So yeah, I'm happy that I'm back doing that, and I'm happy that I'm doing the job for the team,” he added.

Also, Rahul talked about Team India’s lower-order collapse twice in the game. While India lost seven wickets for 41 runs in the first innings, they lost six wickets for 31 runs in the second innings. Interestingly, Rahul defended the lower middle-order and tailenders.

"There was a little bit of discussion about how many runs we need on the board or... maybe giving them a few overs to bat in the evening today and see if we can pick up a wicket or two. Ideally, from the position we were in, we would've wanted at least 40 or 50 runs more,” he concluded.
