In an unfortunate turn of events, the Indian vice-captain Rishabh Pant’s innings on Day 1 of the Manchester Test ended as he got retired hurt after being hit on his toe while trying to attempt a reverse sweep against Chris Woakes.
Shifting our focus to the details of the incident, Woakes was bowling the 68th over of the first innings when the Indian keeper-batter was batting on a 48-ball 37-run knock before getting hit on his toe while attempting a reverse sweep.
Later, Pant was attended to by the Indian medical team before being moved out of the field in a golf-style buggy. BCCI was quick to give an injury update on its social media platforms, stating that the medical team is monitoring his progress.
"Rishabh Pant was hit on his right foot while batting on Day 1 of the Manchester Test. He was taken for scans from the stadium. The BCCI Medical Team is monitoring his progress,” the BCCI tweeted after the first day’s play.

Sai Sudharsan, who scored his maiden Test fifty on his comeback to the XI, replacing Karun Nair at No.3, stated that if Pant is ruled out of the tour, the visitors will face a lot of tough consequences.
"Obviously, because he (Pant) was batting really well today as well. So, and plus we miss out, miss a batter if he doesn't come back again. So, it will definitely have consequences. But at the same time, the batters who are batting right now and there are a few more all-rounders inside. So, we'll try and give our best and bat long so that we negotiate that loss very well," Sudharsan said at the post-day press conference.
If Pant doesn’t come out to keep wickets in this Test, Dhruv Jurel, who kept wickets at Lord’s, can be an option for the keeping duties. However, he went on to leak 26 byes in the third innings of the Lord’s Test.
