There should be a separate contract for Jasprit Bumrah, he is a national treasure: Dinesh Karthik

Former Indian keeper-batter Dinesh Karthik has hailed the Indian pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah as the national treasure in his latest Instagram post after the seamer scalped his 12th five-wicket haul away from home.

Notably, Bumrah pocketed yet another fifer as England got bundled out for 465 runs on Day 3 with India taking a six-run meagre lead in the first innings. At the end of Day 3 play, India were 96 runs ahead.

Hailing Bumrah as a ‘national treasure’, Karthik stated that the BCCI should come up with a separate grade to differentiate the Indian seamer from other players. Notably, BCCI has A+, A, B, and C grades for its central contracts currently.

“There should be a separate contract for Bumrah — not Grade A, B, C or D — but something more than that!” Karthik said in his video message on Instagram.

"He is a national treasure, another five-wicket haul away from home. Whenever India needs a wicket, he delivers, before lunch, before tea, or before stumps, with new or old ball, he finds to get things done. He’s chalk and cheese above most bowlers. It’s his mind more than anything that just ticks as he knows how to pick up wickets,” Karthik added.

Furthermore, Karthik also recalled how Bumrah shifted gears from making his IPL debut for Mumbai Indians as a shy young bowler to becoming the best pacer in the world at the moment. He also vouched for his participation in maximum games of the ongoing series.

"When I first saw him at MI a young, thin, so shy and today just look at him. India needs to wrap him in cotton wool, take care of him. He needs to be there in all the big matches, because when he is there, the bowling attack looks completely different," he concluded.
