“There was no home advantage for CSK at Chepauk” - Stephen Fleming after 50-run defeat to RCB

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) head coach Stephen Fleming has stated that the franchise doesn’t have any home advantage at their home ground MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chepauk in Chennai, after losing to Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) by 50 runs.

Moreover, Fleming asserted that their side hasn’t been able to read the wicket at Chepauk in the past two years. Notably, this was the first time RCB registered a win over CSK at Chepauk since 2008.

“We have been telling you for many years, there was no home advantage at Chepauk - We haven’t been able to read the wickets here in the last couple of years. So, it’s not new. We are trying to come to grips each day with what we get, and we don’t know - it’s so hard to read,” said Fleming in the post-match press conference.

Furthermore, CSK captain Ruturaj Gaikwad, who bagged a four-ball duck, also opened up on the team’s loss, stating that poor fielding was one of the reasons behind giving the opposition a few extra runs. However, he expressed his happiness at not suffering by a big margin.

“Bad day in the fielding cost us really badly. When you’re chasing 20 runs extra on a wicket where you know it’s going to be a little bit sticky and it’s going to stop after the ball gets old, you have to bat slightly differently in the powerplay. Still happy that we didn’t lose by a big margin and at the end it was just 50 runs,” said Gaikwad in the post-match presentation ceremony.

Chennai Super Kings will next take on the Rajasthan Royals in the 11th match of the season at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium in Guwahati on Sunday, March 30.
