"They are all jealous of you": Sanju Samson's father reveals how Rahul Dravid saved his son’s career from KCA

The latest twist in the ongoing tussle between cricketer Sanju Samson and the Kerala Cricket Association revolves around allegations by the player's father, Samson Viswanath, that former India head coach Rahul Dravid tried to intervene in his son's career being "destroyed" by the state body.

Recently, Sanju Samson was dropped from the Indian squad for the ICC Champions Trophy after he was omitted from the Kerala team for the Vijay Hazare Trophy as he was absent from the pre-tournament camp. This exclusion has strained the already fragile relationship between the player and the KCA further.

In an interview with Sports Today, Samson Viswanath recounted a crucial incident involving Rahul Dravid. "I will tell you one incident about Rahul Dravid. When KCA had tried to disregard Sanju and destroy his career, Dravid ji had interfered in the matter. Wherever Sanju is at today, he owes it to Rahul Dravid," he said.

Viswanath further explained how Dravid's intervention provided a crucial lifeline to Samson's career: "When action was being taken against Samson, they had given up his kit and everything else. Then, one day, we were all sad and sitting at home when Sanju got a call from Rahul sir. Sanju was overjoyed. He picked up the phone crying. The mood in the house was somber."

Viswanath said that KCA had been trying to jeopardize Samson's career since the player was only 11 years old. It was, however, Dravid who took Samson under his wing after he was picked by the Rajasthan Royals in the 2013 season of the Indian Premier League.

Viswanath revealed how Dravid motivated Samson during this difficult period: "After keeping down the phone, he told me ‘it was Rahul sir’. He said ‘Sanju, I understand all that is happening with you. They are all jealous of you. Tu chinta mat kar (Don’t worry). Don’t get your morale down. I have taken care of it. You keep training and get ready for NCA’. He operated at a level higher than the KCA and took Sanju under his wings."

This revelation has further fueled the controversy surrounding the ongoing conflict between Sanju Samson and the KCA.
