“I speak to Virat bhai a lot” - Tilak Varma eager to run between the wickets with Virat Kohli

Tilak Varma, who made his international debut against the West Indies in August 2023, has revealed that he loves to play the ODI and Test formats comparatively. Notably, Tilak played a match-winning knock in the Asia Cup 2025 grand finale against Pakistan most recently, propelling India to a title win.

Speaking exclusively on JioStar, Tilak asserted that his confidence level would be completely different when the talismanic batters Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma are part of the dressing room. It’s worth noting that Tilak Varma has been selected for the three-match ODI series vs South Africa, but couldn’t make it to the playing XI in the Ranchi ODI.

"ODI and Test cricket feel like my game because I enjoy the longer format. I'm really excited to play more ODIs as well. When Rohit bhai and Virat bhai are in the same team, the confidence level is completely different," Tilak Varma said on JioStar.

"They have so much experience and knowledge, and I try to take as much advice from them as possible to get better," he added.

Furthermore, the middle-order batter has also revealed that he loves talking with Virat Kohli and taking advice on his fitness and running between the wickets. If he gets a chance in the XI, Tilak stated that he would love to run between the wickets with Kohli.

"I speak to Virat bhai a lot, especially about fitness and running between the wickets. His intensity is incredible. I love running too, and I feel I'm pretty quick, so I really enjoy that part of the game," he noted.

"If we play together, running between the wickets with him is something I look forward to," he stated.

"Whatever opportunities I get against South Africa, I want to finish those matches. I want to prove myself in ODIs and Tests too. I'm challenging myself to perform in the longer formats and grow as an individual player," he concluded.
