Tim Southee picks his top two batters for Champions Trophy 2025

Former New Zealand seamer Tim Southee has picked the top two batters for the upcoming ICC Champions Trophy 2025, scheduled to start on February 19 across three venues in Pakistan and in Dubai, UAE.

Southee has picked his colleague and No.3 batter Kane Williamson to come out good on Pakistan and Dubai tracks. Moreover, he asserted Travis Head to be among the top run-getters in the tournament.

"I think wickets would be pretty good in Pakistan. Kane Williamson would be up there (among the top run-getters). Just think about his ability to adapt to different conditions. We have seen his experience in different conditions, his success in different conditions and he is a guy that's got a phenomenal one-day record,” Tim Southee said in a video posted by the ICC.

"Maybe Travis Head as well, I think he is a dangerous player. He has been a standout in the ODI World Cup last edition. I think he will like the wickets in Pakistan. Australia have historically been strong in the world events and I am sure they will be there near the end this time as well,” he added.

Kane Williamson and Travis Head have a decent ODI record

While Kane Williamson has 6810 runs from 165 ODIs since his debut in 2010 at an average of 48.64 with 13 centuries and 45 fifties, Travis Head has 2645 runs in 66 ODI innings at an average of 44.08 with six centuries and 16 fifties to his name.

New Zealand will start off their Champions Trophy 2025 campaign against Pakistan on the opening day of the event on February 19 in Karachi. Later, they will meet Bangladesh on February 24 in Rawalpindi and India on March 2 in Dubai.

Meanwhile, Australia will start off their campaign against England on February 22 in Lahore. Later, they will take on South Africa and Afghanistan in Rawalpindi on February 25 and 28 respectively.
