At the age of 35, Jay Shah will be the youngest person to assume the role of chairman of the worldwide cricket governing organization. Shah has held the positions of head of the Asian Cricket Council since January 2021 and secretary of the BCCI since October 2019. In order to become the new chairman of the ICC, Jay Shah received the votes of 15 of the 16 board members. On December 1, 2024, Jay Shah will commence his new journey as the ICC chairman.
Cricket West Indies CEO Johnny Grave said The Indian Express, "Internal politics shouldn't take up too much of the ICC board's attention. Jay has done a fantastic job leading the BCCI, as you can see. He has hosted the Women's Premier League, successfully managed the 50-over World Cup in India, and signed huge broadcast deals with IPL and for BCCI."
Jay Shah as the new ICC chairman:
On Thursday, John Buchanan, the former head coach of Australia, asked the International Cricket Council—which Jay Shah, the secretary of the BCCI, will soon be leading—to make "good decisions" that will ensure cricket's long-term survival. Coach Buchanan led Australia to two distinct sets of world records—16 straight Test victories and ODI World Cup victories in 2003 and 2007—and stated that the ICC should address the expanding number of T20 leagues. It's a thought-provoking query.
When questioned if Australia and India would continue to produce Test players of the same standard they have so far in light of Jay Shah's recent appointment to the position of ICC chief, Buchanan told PTI that "It really is important that the ICC makes some very, very good long-term decisions for the game."
