26-year-old Will Pucovski was once considered the next big thing in Australian cricket. The young one-test prodigy dealt with a traumatic head injury that led to a heartbreaking end to what could have been a prolific career. It has been reported that the young cricketer has been advised by a panel of medical experts to retire and take rest. The reports further suggest that his recurring head injuries and concussions are the major reason for his career to come to an unexpected early end.

The young cricket star had admitted that these setbacks have had a huge blow on his mental well-being. On Thursday, he stated that due to the recommendation of a panel of medical experts, he will be retiring from his cricket career. This statement comes as a heartbreak to everyone seeing a promising career come to an early end.

Heartbreaking retirement of a young Australian Cricketer:

In Sydney in 2021, the former opener faced India in his lone Test match of the year. With his unruly hair poking out from under his helmet, Pucovski scored a risky 62 against off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin in the match before Navdeep Saini got rid of him. During the game, he also had a shoulder injury that kept him out of commission for six months. Pucovski made it into the Test team to play India following two Sheffield Shield double-hundreds for Victoria. But while representing Australia A against the foreigners, he was hit in the helmet and had a concussion.

His career has been marred by a string of concussions, which has exacerbated his mental health problems and required him to miss time from the game. Despite his best efforts, he was unable to progress his career due to the concussion he suffered in March. In January 2017, he made his List A debut in a tour match against Pakistan. He had previously played for Victoria at the Under-19 level, hit four hundreds in a national championship, and been awarded his Sheffield Shield debut.
