Indian star batter Virat Kohli has finally broken the silence on playing only one format after retiring from the longest and shortest formats of the game. Notably, Kohli made a comeback to the international arena in Australia for the first time since the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 campaign in March.
Speaking to Ravi Shastri and Adam Gilchrist on Fox Cricket Australia, Kohli has disclosed that he has played a lot of cricket in the last 15-20 years and added that he has not rested at all, asserting that he has played the most games in the last 15 years.
"The amount of cricket I've played over the last 15-20 years, I've actually not rested at all, if that makes sense. I've probably played the most number of games in the last 15 years in international cricket, combining the IPL as well. So for me, it was a very refreshing time off. I'm feeling as fit, if not fitter, than I've ever been before,” Kohli told Fox Cricket Australia.
"You can just feel the freshness when you know you can play the game, and mentally you know what to do out there. It's just the physical preparation that really needs to be taken care of. At this stage, I realised that if my body is fit, if my reflexes are there, then the game awareness is already there," he added.
Notably, Kohli has amassed 14181 runs from 303 ODIs at an average of 57.64 with 51 centuries and 74 half-centuries, becoming the third-leading run-scorer of all time. He is only 54 runs away from becoming the second-leading run-scorer.
After his eight-ball duck against Australia in the first ODI, he would be next seen playing in the second ODI at the Adelaide Oval in Adelaide on Thursday, October 23.
