Indian talismanic ODI batter Virat Kohli has revealed that he sends all his player of the match awards to his mother in Gurgaon. Notably, Kohli smacked a 93-run knock off 91 balls in the first ODI against New Zealand as India secured a four-wicket win in Vadodara.

Kohli’s 93-run knock helped him win his 45th POTM award in his career. Speaking at the post-match presentation ceremony, Kohli stated that his mother likes to keep all his awards, adding he has lost count of his trophies.

“Honestly I have no idea (On his POTM awards collection). I send it to my mum in Gurgaon, she likes to keep them. If I look back at my whole journey then it is nothing short of a dream come true for me. I have always known my abilities, I have worked a lot for where I am today, God has blessed me with way too much and I have a lot of gratitude in my heart, I feel proud,” Kohli said at the post-match presentation ceremony.

“If I am being brutally honest, the way I’m playing right now, I’m not thinking about milestones at all. If we were batting first, I probably would’ve gone harder. But in a chase, with a total on the board, I had to play the situation. I felt like hitting more boundaries, but experience kicks in. The only thing on my mind was getting the team into a position where we could win comfortably,” he concluded.

Shifting our focus to the first ODI, New Zealand was tasked to bat first after losing the toss. Opening batters Devon Conway (56), Henry Nicholls (62), and middle-order batters Daryl Mitchell (84) helped New Zealand post 300/8 in 50 overs. Mohammed Siraj, Harshit Rana, and Prasidh Krishna scalped two wickets apiece.

In response, Shubman Gill (56), Virat Kohli (93), and Shreyas Iyer (49) helped India to a four-wicket win with six balls to spare. Kohli was adjudged the player of the match for his heroic and match-winning knock. Kyle Jamieson’s four-wicket haul went in vain for the Blackcaps.
