Virat Kohli surges to No.2 spot in the ICC ODI Rankings

Virat Kohli jumped two places to No. 2 in the latest ICC ODI Batting Rankings, now just 8 points behind Rohit Sharma. The rise follows his Player of the Series performance against South Africa ($302$ runs), showcasing his resurgence to elite form.

Indian veteran batter Virat Kohli has advanced two positions to the second rank in the newly announced ICC ODI batting rankings. For the unversed, the No.3 Indian batter is now only eight points behind the former Indian skipper Rohit Sharma, who holds the No.1 rank.

Notably, Kohli was in impressive form in the recently concluded South Africa ODI series, in which he scored 135, 102, and an unbeaten 65-run knock to win the player of the series award and helped India to a 2-1 ODI series win.

Meanwhile, South African batters Aiden Markram and Quinton de Kock advanced to 25th and 13th ranks respectively, while their captain Temba Bavuma surged three positions to the 37th rank in the ICC ODI batting rankings.

Shifting our focus to the ODI bowling rankings, Indian attacking spinner Kuldeep Yadav’s 4/41 in the series-deciding third ODI against South Africa helped him propel to the third spot, surging three spots.

Delving into the details of the ICC Test rankings, former England skipper Joe Root’s first century in Australia enabled him to continue to occupy his pole position in the batting rankings with 781 rating points.

However, his colleague Harry Brook slid down two spots to the fourth rank as he is now behind the former New Zealand captain Kane Williamson in second place (827 points) and the stand-in Australian captain Steve Smith (823 points) in third place.

In the ICC Test bowling and all-rounders rankings, Australian pacer Mitchell Starc’s impressive pink ball heroics in Brisbane helped him move up three spots to a career-best third spot and one slot up to the fifth rank in the all-rounders’ rankings.

Speaking about the ICC T20I player rankings, South African explosive middle-order batter Dewald Brevis rocketed into the top 10 among the batters, moving three slots up to eighth spot after his 22-run knock.

Also, the Indian all-rounder Hardik Pandya advanced three places to fourth in the all-rounders’ list with Axar Patel moving to ninth (from 10th) on the same list and 13th (from 15th) among the bowlers.
