Former Indian opening batter and analyst Virender Sehwag has opened up on India’s possible combination for the Super8 clash against Zimbabwe at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on Thursday, February 26.
Speaking exclusively on Cricbuzz, Sehwag clarified that the all-rounder and vice-captain Axar Patel should’ve been part of the playing XI in the initial Super8 clash against the Proteas, which India lost by 76 runs at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
Washington Sundar, who replaced Axar in the game against South Africa, could bowl only two overs without scalping a wicket. Moreover, he managed to score only 11 runs, batting at No.5 in the second innings.
"The way Axar has played and contributed, Axar should have been there in the previous match as well. So, I think he can come in for Washington Sundar. If Zimbabwe keep their previous match in their mind, then India will trash them the same way as the West Indies," Sehwag said on Cricbuzz.
Furthermore, Sehwag asserted that the Indian batting line-up looks pressurized at the moment, adding that Suryakumar Yadav needs to come up at No.3 to solve the left-right-handed batting issue at the top-order with Tilak Varma moving down to No.4.
"I want Suryakumar Yadav to come in at No.3, and Tilak Varma at No.4, so that they can keep the left-hand-right-hand combination going. It looks like India are batting under pressure. I want them to bat freely. What's the worst that can happen? India will lose the game and get knocked out," Sehwag added.
India squad: Suryakumar Yadav (c), Abhishek Sharma, Tilak Varma, Sanju Samson, Shivam Dube, Ishan Kishan, Hardik Pandya, Arshdeep Singh, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj, Varun Chakaravarthy, Kuldeep Yadav, Axar Patel, Washington Sundar, Rinku Singh.
