American YouTuber IShowSpeed couldn’t believe it after he came to know that India’s Virat Kohli had announced his retirement from Test cricket on May 12. Several well-known personalities have responded to the legend putting up his boots, in addition to cricket fans and commentators.
It is well known that Kohli's fervor is not exclusive to India and that his fan base is international. The well-known American YouTube phenomenon Ishowspeed, whose real name is Darren Jason Watkins Jr., has also responded to Kohli's decision to abandon the red-ball format.
Kohli mentioned in his announcement on social media that he first wore the baggy blue in his career during his debut, which was 14 years ago. He added that although it wasn't an easy choice, he thought that it was "right" to end things.
"It's been 14 years since I first wore the baggy blue in Test cricket. Honestly, I never imagined the journey this format would take me on. It's tested me, shaped me, and taught me lessons I'll carry for life. There's something deeply personal about playing in whites. The quiet grind, the long days, the small moments that no one sees but that stay with you forever," he wrote on social media.
"As I step away from this format, it's not easy - but it feels right. I've given it everything I had, and it's given me back so much more than I could've hoped for. I'm walking away with a heart full of gratitude for the game, for the people I shared the field with, and for every single person who made me feel seen along the way. I'll always look back at my Test career with a smile," he added.
Virat Kohli’s retirement from Test came just a few days after India captain Rohit Sharma had done the same on May 9. Sharma retired after playing 67 Tests for India and scoring over 4300 runs.
“Ain't no f**king way you just retired!”- iShowSpeed reacts to Virat Kohli’s Test retirement
Reactions from all quarters were triggered when Indian cricket legend Virat Kohli announced his retirement from Test cricket on Monday. In honor of Kohli, who played 123 Test matches over 14 years, fans from all around the world took to social media.
The well-known American YouTube phenomenon Darren Jason Watkins Jr., also known as Ishowspeed, has responded to Kohli's decision to abandon the red-ball format.
Speed, who is a well-known admirer of the 36-year-old, expressed amazement and disappointment at the Delhi batter's decision to retire from Test cricket after only a few months of winning an ICC trophy (Champions Trophy 2025).
"He (Kohli) just won an ICC. This has got to be fake. Virat Kohli is gone. I don't think you understand what's going on, bro,” he reacts to the news of Virat Kohli’s retirement.
"This s**t is sad. All the legends are retiring, bro. All the legends are retiring, man. Ain't no f**king way you just retired! Ain't no f**king way he just retired! And, they just won an ICC! Why is he retiring if they just won the ICC? Like, what the f**k?! This gotta be fake. Why would he retire at 36 if he just won the ICC? Why would he do that?" he added.
