At the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru, where India A and India B are playing in the Duleep Trophy 2024, a group of spectators shouted "RCB captain" as KL Rahul left for a warm-up before play restarted.
Rahul is among the greatest Karnataka batsmen that have played for India. He was formerly a player with the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB). Due to his recent struggles with form and injuries, the wicketkeeper-batter has become erratic in the Indian system. Although he is no longer as popular with the Indian T20 team, he is still a reliable player in the Indian Premier League (IPL). But following a contentious argument on the field last season, his relationship with Sanjiv Goenka, the owner of his IPL team, the Lucknow Super Giants, appeared to have worsened.
KL Rahul gets a warm homecoming:
There has been a lot of talk for some time now about Rahul leaving LSG due to the huge auctions that are scheduled to take place before the IPL 2025 season. It has been reported that RCB approached Rahul, wanting to move on from the Faf du Plessis era and find a new boss. The prominent Indian cricket player apparently conveyed his desire to be retained when he recently saw Goenka in Kolkata.
Yes, Rahul visited RPG headquarters in Kolkata and had a meeting with Dr. Goenka. He has expressed his desire to be retained to Dr. Goenka rather plainly. But LSG management wouldn't want to lay out their plans until BCCI developed a retention policy, an IPL Governing Council member with knowledge of LSG developments was reported as saying by India Today.
"Look, Rahul wants retention but till LSG knows how many are to be retained and what's the new purse, they can't commit anyone," the IPL insider added.
Rahul, who is playing for India A in the Duleep Trophy, is expected to be kept unless some significant changes occur. Goenka called Rahul "family." On Saturday, September 7, however, the people of Chinnaswamy expressed their affection and anticipation for a spectacular homecoming for Rahul.
