Watch: USA players enjoy panipuris at food stall in Mumbai ahead of T20 World Cup 2026

Before their first T20 World Cup 2026 encounter against Team India at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Saturday, February 7, the United States of America (USA) players were seen indulging in pani puri. 

Prior to the major event, the USA team, captained by Monank Patel, landed in Mumbai on Sunday, February 1. Prior to other participating teams starting to prepare and adjust to the conditions before their opening match against the hosts and reigning champions India, the USA was the first to land in India. 

Along with India, Pakistan, Namibia, and the Netherlands, the United States, which participated in its first ICC competition at the most recent T20 World Cup, has been placed in Group A.

Monank Patel, Saurabh Netravalkar, Harmeet Singh, Milind Kumar, Shubham Ranjane, Sanjay Krishnamurthi, Saiteja Mukkamalla, vice-captain Jasdeep Singh, and Nosthush Kenjige, many of them having strong background in Indian domestic cricket. 

The USA team has been training in Navi Mumbai ahead of their opening match against Team India at Mumbai's Wankhede Stadium with less than a week to go in the T20 World Cup 2026. The athletes, however, chose to take a break from their training regimen and were seen savoring Pani Puri, a famous street dish in Mumbai. 

USA players were smiling and enjoying Pani Puri together in a video that went popular on social media, taking in the vivid street food and distinct flavors of Mumbai. The incident demonstrated the players' acquaintance with Indian culture before to the match against Team India, as some of them are of Indian descent. 

The American players, however, were spotted savoring Mumbai's famous street cuisine, underscoring the team's laid-back and positive attitude prior to the tournament's opening matchup with the reigning champions at Mumbai's Wankhede Stadium.

As one of the eight teams to advance to the Super 8 stage of the 2024 T20 World Cup, the United States of America (USA) received a direct qualification to the following tournament without having to compete in qualifications. 

The USA, under the leadership of Aaron Jones, had an incredible ICC tournament debut when they defeated Pakistan in an exciting Super Over during the Group Stage, pulling off a stunning upset. With wins against Canada and Pakistan and a loss to Team India, the USA finished in Group A with five points to earn a spot in the Super 8.

USA failed to win any of the three matches against the West Indies, South Africa, and England, finishing the Super 8 stage without a victory and ending their tournament run in 2024.
