On the day of their Big Bash League game, Perth Scorchers players were observed forcefully pushing their Uber taxi to get to the stadium. Before their match against the Sydney Thunder on December 30, a humorous pre-match event occurred where a number of Scorchers players were stuck in the middle of the road after their car broke down.

The two travelled to Sydney Showground Stadium, the game's location, in a taxi alongside Laurie Evans and Mahli Beardman, two of their Scorchers teammates. The players were left stranded on the side of the road when the automobile broke down midway through the ride. The four cricket players got out and started pushing the car to the side of the road in an effort to get it running again because there was no urgent help available, and the match was about to start.

Commentators brought up the incident while the Perth Scorchers were fielding during the broadcast. Laurie Evans, wearing an earpiece, was questioned on rumours that the players had shown up at the stadium under unusual circumstances. Evans verified the account, stating that the group had to assist the Uber to the side of the road after it broke down. The Scorchers eventually arrived at the stadium in time despite the interruption.

In terms of the game, Perth Scorchers defeated Sydney Thunder by a score of 71 runs. The Ashton Turner-led team scored 202 for 8 in the allotted 20 overs while batting first. Captain Turner used eight fours and an equal number of sixes to score 99 not out off 41 balls. Sydney Thunder, in response, never really posed a danger to the Scorchers' total. Despite a strong start from David Warner and Matthew Gilkes, the Thunder lost steam due to frequent wicket losses. Perth won by 71 runs after their bowlers dismissed the opposition for 131 in 17.3 overs.
