Watch: Virat Kohli Strikes A Majestic Cover Drive Against New Zealand

Every great batsman in cricket history has a shot that is associated with their style of play. Virat Kohli, the best Indian batsman, is known for his exquisite cover drive, which he has executed flawlessly on innumerable occasions. The firing of Yashasvi Jaiswal was the factor that pushed Kohli into the centre. The opening part of Kohli's innings was devoted to getting off the mark after he was removed for his 38th duck in the first innings. On the fifteenth delivery he encountered, he did so.

In the 25th over of India's second innings, Kohli's blade produced the magnificent hit off William O'Rourke. As the ball galloped towards the boundary, he skillfully swung a full-of-a-good-length ball towards the left of the fielder at cover by showing the entire face of the bat.

Despite giving up a sizable advantage, Kohli and Sarfaraz Khan produced half-centuries to keep India in the lead. Their goal was to reduce the gap. India replied well with a strong opening stand between Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal after tidying up the tail in the second session of the day.

But thanks to Ajaz Patel, New Zealand was able to recover after Jaiswal's collapse due to a blood rush. He attempted to hit the spinner above his head by dancing down the track, but he was stumped after missing the ball entirely. The ball slid back to the stumps after the Indian captain played a forward defence, thus his demise was more due to bad luck than anything else.
