Indian T20I captain Suryakumar Yadav has expressed his disappointment with the Indian bowlers despite India’s 72-run win over Zimbabwe in the Super8 clash of the ICC T20 World Cup 2026.
Speaking at the post-match presentation ceremony, Suryakumar admitted that he expected a slightly better approach from the Indian bowlers and wanted them to be more clinical in the second innings.
For the unversed, the sixth bowling option, Shivam Dube, went on to concede 46 runs in his two-over spell, picking up a wicket at an economy of 23 runs per over. On the other hand, spinners Varun Chakravarthy and Axar Patel also conceded more than eight runs per over.
“We could have been more clinical with the ball. A win is a win. We will tighten our screws when we play the West Indies. I don’t want to take credit away from the Zimbabwe batters, they batted smartly. We could have been a little bit smarter with our options,” Suryakumar Yadav said after the game.
On the other hand, the Indian captain was delighted with India’s batting performance as everyone in the line-up clicked on a belter of a batting wicket at Chepauk as they posted a whopping total of 256/4 in 20 overs.
“I think we wanted to leave everything behind. We didn’t think too much about what we did in the group stage or in the last game in Ahmedabad. Our video analyst had prepared a slide for all the batters and bowlers, highlighting what we’ve done well over the past year. We looked at that, took a lot of positivity from it, and came here with clarity. With contributions from the top order right down to No. 7, I think there was hardly anything missing in our performance,” he concluded.
