Former Indian keeper-batter Parthiv Patel has suggested that the Indian team management include Kuldeep Yadav in the playing XI for the third and final ODI at the Sydney Cricket Ground on Saturday, October 25.
Speaking exclusively on Star Sports, Parthiv asserted that India should build trust in their top-order and stick with the right balance throughout the batting order, adding that the Indian team doesn’t require any extra cushion in the batting order.
“We will definitely see Kuldeep Yadav playing in the third ODI. As far as the combination is concerned, India will have to trust their top order, whether it’s about performance or runs, and stick with the right balance. There’s no need for an extra cushion in batting," Parthiv Patel told Star Sports.
While the Australian star spinner Adam Zampa scalped a match-winning four-wicket haul to emerge as the player of the match, India failed to have a proper attacking spin-bowling option on a decent spin-bowling Adelaide surface.
“Kuldeep Yadav can provide those crucial wickets in the middle overs that India has been missing. If your top-order batters get out early, that’s part of the game. You can’t keep adding more batters to cover for that. The focus should be on playing the best combination to win," he added.
Shifting our focus to the details of the second ODI, India batted first after losing the toss, posting 264/9 in 50 overs. Opening batter Rohit Sharma (73) and No.4 batter Shreyas Iyer (61) were impressive enough while star spinner Adam Zampa scalped a four-wicket haul.
In the second innings, Australia took 46.2 overs to chase down the target with two wickets in hand. All-rounder Matthew Short was exceptional with a 74-run knock off 78 balls. Finisher Cooper Connolly was also exceptional with his unbeaten 61 off 53 balls.
