West Indies calls upon Viv Richards & Brian Lara for help after 27-run disaster against Australia

On Tuesday, July 15, West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) President Kishore Shallow has assured that he is planning to bring in the Caribbean legendary cricketers Viv Richards and Brian Lara to help the current West Indies team to come out of their slump.

Notably, West Indies got bundled out for only 27 runs in the fourth innings against Australia in the third Test (pink ball Test) of the three-match series. Interestingly, it was the second-lowest total in Test cricket history as they lost the game by 176 runs and the series by 0-3.

It’s important to note that the West Indies national team hasn’t won a Test series since 2022-23 when it defeated Zimbabwe at home. With continuous batting collapses, Shallow had seen enough and he is all set to invite former legends to save West Indies Cricket.

"The result hurts deeply, not only because of how we lost, but because of what West Indies Cricket has always represented to our people: pride, identity, and possibility," Shallow said in a statement.

"There will be some sleepless nights ahead for many of us, including the players, who I know feel this loss just as heavily. We are in a rebuilding phase, steadily investing in the next generation, and reigniting the spirit that has long made West Indies cricket a force in the world,” he added.

"To strengthen the discussions, I have extended invitations to three of our greatest batsmen ever: Clive Lloyd, Vivian Richards and Brian Lara. They will join past greats Shivnarine Chanderpaul, Desmond Haynes and Ian Bradshaw,” the statement read.

"This engagement is not ceremonial. These are men who helped define our golden eras, and their perspectives will be invaluable as we shape the next phase of our cricket development,” he concluded.

In the three-match Test series against Australia, West Indies started off with a 159-run defeat in the Barbados Test. Later, they staged another collapse to lose the second Test by 133 runs in Grenada. In the most recent pink ball Test, the home side suffered a 176-run defeat in Jamaica to end the series with a 0-3 whitewash.
