“Tu bewakoof nahi, main bewakoof hoon” - When MS Dhoni scolded Deepak Chahar for bowling two consecutive no-balls

Deepak Chahar recalls the rare moment MS Dhoni lost his cool in IPL 2019 after he bowled two consecutive no-balls in the 19th over. Dhoni's famous angry quote was "Tu bewakoof nahi, main bewakoof hoon." Chahar recovered to salvage the over, leading CSK to a 22-run victory.

Former Chennai Super Kings pacer Deepak Chahar has strolled down memory lane to reveal an interesting anecdote involving the then Chennai Super Kings (CSK) skipper MS Dhoni during the IPL 2019 season.

Notably, Chahar made this revelation during the family week of Bigg Boss 19 season. Interestingly, his sister Malti is a contestant on the show. Moving into the details of the incident, Chahar was playing against KXIP (Now Punjab Kings) with Punjab requiring 39 runs off 12 balls in Chennai.

Chahar, who was tasked to bowl the 19th over, started on a bad note, bowling a waist-high no-ball to Sarfaraz Khan, which was smacked for a four. On the next ball, he went on to bowl another no-ball, on which the batter scored a double. Interestingly, in these two balls, Chahar went on to concede eight runs without bowling a legal delivery, which left Dhoni angry.

"I was bowling in the death for the first time in that match. Sarfaraz Khan was batting. We had planned what to bowl to him. Sarfaraz plays the scoop shot. So if you bowl a slower ball to him, it is difficult to hit. So I bowled a leg-cutter outside the leg stump. My leg got stuck, and it was a full-toss. The match was tense. It was a no-ball and went for a boundary as well. I thought the plan was right, but the execution was wrong. So I bowled the same ball again, and it was a no-ball again," Chahar told the contestants.

"I thought my death bowling career was done. Mahi bhai came and he told me things in anger. He said, 'Tu bewakoof nahi, main bewakoof hoon' (You are not stupid, I am stupid). I thought I will not get bowling again, and I just put my head down and was listening. But in the next five-six balls, I gave only five runs and took a wicket as well, and we won the game," he added.

For the unversed, Chahar went on to concede 13 runs in that particular over and scalped the wicket of David Miller. Eventually, CSK managed to win that game by 22 runs.
