When will Rinku Singh join the India T20 WC squad? BCCI Secretary answers

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) Secretary Devajit Saikia revealed that the Indian middle-order batter Rinku Singh will join the Indian team on Saturday, February 28, while sending his heartfelt condolences to him and his family members.

Notably, Rinku Singh’s father, Khanchand, passed away in the early hours on Friday due to advanced-stage liver cancer after being admitted to a hospital in Greater Noida on Saturday, February 21.

Khanchand, who worked in gas cylinder distribution and faced financial challenges, had long been Rinku's biggest supporter. After receiving the tragic news, the Indian batter departed Chennai at 5:00 AM on Friday to attend the final rites in New Delhi. 

"Rinku Singh will join the team tomorrow in Kolkata," Saikia confirmed. "On behalf of the Board of Control for Cricket in India, I extend my heartfelt condolences to Rinku Singh and his family," he added.

The Indian talismanic batter Virat Kohli and former Indian spinner Harbhajan Singh were the first from the cricketing fraternity to pay their heartfelt condolences to the cricketer and his family during this phase.

“Deeply saddened by the news of Rinku’s father’s demise. My heartfelt prayers and thoughts are with you and your family during this difficult time. May you always find strength in his eternal blessings. Om Shanti. @rinkusingh235,” Kohli tweeted on X.

“Pained to learn about the demise of Shri Khanchand Singh Ji, father of Rinku Singh. This must be an especially difficult time for Rinku and his family, even as he remains committed to his responsibilities during the T20 World Cup. My heartfelt thoughts and prayers are with him and his loved ones. May Waheguru grant eternal peace to the departed soul and give strength and courage to the bereaved family,” Harbhajan Singh posted on X.
