Umar Nazir Mir

The Ranji Trophy is a stage where unknown talents and unearthed gems get a chance to showcase their skills. One such talent that has emerged from the match between Mumbai and Jammu and Kashmir is pacer Umar Nazir Mir. The six-foot-four-inch pacer from Jammu and Kashmir breathed fire as he broke the back of Mumbai's batting line-up on Thursday.

The first wicket picked up by Umnar Nazir Mir was that of veteran opener Rohit Sharma. A short-pitched delivery angling into Rohit's body was difficult for the star opener to negotiate as he lobbed it straight into the hands of Paras Dogra at covers.

Umar Nazir Mir also trapped Hardik Tamore right in front and cleaned up Mumbai captain Ajinkya Rahane for 12. He also sent Shivam Dube packing for a duck. But who is Umar Nazir and how did he rise to the occasion? Let's get into it.

Who is Umar Nazir Mir?

Umar Nazir Mir is from Malikpora, a small town in Pulwama, Jammu & Kashmir. The tall lanky pacer makes great use of his height while bowling and has caused several batters issues in domestic cricket.

He dreams of playing for India and it is safe to say that with performances like the one against Mumbai, he is making a strong case for himself. Umar's inspiration is the great former Australian pacer Glenn McGrath. He has the ability to move the ball both ways and also is almost unplayable when he hits the right length.

Umar Nazir Mir has been a proven performer in domestic cricket and this isn't the first time that he has caused problems for a batting line-up. In 57 first-class games, Umar has picked up 138 wickets at an average of 29.12.

He has also picked up 11 wickets from three first-class matches this Ranji season. While he hasn't received an IPL contract yet, performances like these ensure that he won't be far away from getting one soon.
