In their IPL 2025 encounter with KKR, the Chennai Super Kings had to chase 180 runs. As it happened, Urvil Patel, a 28-year-old Gujarati right-hander, entered after Mhatre was out for a two-ball duck. Before hitting a brilliant six over the deep mid-wicket to Arora with a flick shot, he played a dot ball.
Urvil's explosive cameo of 31 off 11 balls with a strike rate of 281.82 was not over yet, as he proceeded to smash three more sixes and a four. Urvil, who holds the record for the second-fastest fifty in T20 cricket, was accustomed to this batting approach even though it was his first time participating in the IPL.
Following Bedi's injury, which has kept him out indefinitely, Urvil was added. Deepak Hooda was substituted at the last minute for Bedi, who was listed in the playing 12 for the match against Royal Challengers Bengaluru. Urvil, who had a base price of Rs 30 lakh, was not sold at the mega-auction but was then taken in as a replacement for Vans Bedi.
Born in Mehsana, Gujarat, on October 17, 1998, Urvil Patel is a right-handed batsman-wicketkeeper who has become one of India's most promising players in domestic cricket. Patel played for Gujarat and Baroda in domestic games and was a member of the Gujarat Titans team during IPL 2023.
In January 2018, Patel made his Baroda T20 debut at the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, and in February 2018, he made his List A debut at the Vijay Hazare Trophy. In the Ranji Trophy season of 2023–2024, he switched to first-class cricket.
Patel became the fastest Indian to reach a century in Twenty20 cricket, scoring a century off just 28 balls against Tripura in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy in November 2024. Gujarat won easily thanks to his undefeated 113 off 35 balls, which included 12 sixes and 7 fours. He previously set the second-fastest List A century by an Indian in November 2023 when he scored a century off just 41 balls against Arunachal Pradesh in the Vijay Hazare Trophy.
