Former Bangladesh star batter and Fortune Barishal skipper Tamim Iqbal has opened up on the ongoing payment disputes in the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL). He asserted that such payment issues would send a negative message about the country.
Speaking in the press conference after steering his side to a nine-wicket victory against Dhaka Capitals in Mirpur on Wednesday night, Tamim is hopeful of the issue being sorted very soon.
"Why should players have to bargain for their rightful payments? The issue still hasn't been fully resolved, but I hope efforts are made to fix it," Tamim stated in the post-match press conference.
"This doesn't just harm BPL's reputation; it also sends a negative message about the country. Many foreign players want to come and play, but such incidents create problems," he added.

Moreover, the former international batter also pointed out the league’s scheduling, stating that the original window of October to November was more suitable.
"The original BPL schedule was in October-November, which was a better time. It didn't clash with SA20 or ILT20. Now, the only competition would be Abu Dhabi T10, which is much easier to manage," Tamim asserted.
Tamim also added that BPL could benefit from reducing the team. Currently, the league has seven teams participating.
"Fewer teams will create more competition and increase the hunger for domestic players to perform," he suggested.
Most recently, Rajshahi skipper Taskin Ahmed had joked hoping that cheques issued to Bangladesh players before the match wouldn’t bounce like the pitch. Furthermore, BCB media chairman Iftekhar Rahman asserted that the board is all set to take legal action against the Rajshahi franchise.
It’s important to note that BPL 2012 and 2013, the first two editions of the campaign, also got disturbed by non-payment issues. Interestingly, BCB went on to stop the competition for a season after corruption controversies.
