Ahead of Australia's second Test in the current three-match series against the West Indies, Steve Smith recently gave an update on his finger injury and recuperation progress. He revealed that he was sure he would be in the starting lineup for the next match. He had to stay in his room to prevent perspiration on his injured finger while travelling to Barbados with the Australian team for the first Test. Smith chose to take a plane to his place in New York, where he listened to some music to regain his rhythm. After returning to the Test team, he told the reporters.
For those who are unaware, during the World Test Championship's 2023–25 summit match versus Australia at Lord's, the seasoned batter dislocated his finger while trying to catch in the slips. After that, he was brought to a neighbouring hospital to receive care. Smith ended up not needing surgery. He did not, however, attend the first Test of the West Indies trip.
Steve Smith's Fate in WI vs AUS 2025:
He said, "For me, it'll just feel like training as normal, I think. I don't feel any pain or anything. (It's) just getting used to the splint on and the slightly limited movement. It's not too bad, I've got a lot of movement there now, so that feels good. Hitting the ball felt completely fine. Fielding some balls in front of the wicket will probably be the strangest thing for me. I don't think I've ever done that in a Test match. Fielding at either probably mid-on or mid-off or fine leg is a bit different to standing at the second or first slip."
Smith went on to say that he had nothing to do and was bored while sitting in his room. He then travelled to his home in New York, where he witnessed his teammates' outstanding second-inning performances lead to a spectacular comeback and victory.
Josh Inglis will probably miss the game if management decides that Smith is not injured. Australia won the first Test by 159 runs, although England's performance was not the finest. In the first and second innings for his team, he scored five and twelve runs, respectively.
