Will Jacks reveals the reason behind Mumbai Indians’ four-wicket win over SRH

Mumbai Indians’ batting all-rounder Will Jacks, who was awarded the player of the match against SRH on Thursday, was elated after his all-round contribution helped his team bag a convincing four-wicket win.

While Will Jacks scalped two wickets, conceding 14 runs in three overs with the ball, he went on to score a match-winning 36-run knock off 26 balls in the chase to crush Sunrisers Hyderabad in Mumbai.

“I'm really happy. I knew I was gonna play a role with the ball. They've got three left-handers in the top order. And I think we knew that it was gonna have a little bit of assistance,” Will Jacks said.

After Mumbai Indians won the toss, they tasked SRH to bat first. On a slow and sluggish wicket, SRH could score only 162/5 in 20 overs, thanks to the exceptional bowling efforts from MI bowlers. In the chase, MI took 18.1 overs to finish the game with four wickets remaining.

“I think you had to play smart, take the right options, which benefited us, obviously, by second. I think when we bowled, we adapted quite quickly, which is what good teams do,” he said.

Interestingly, Will Jacks failed to create an impact in the initial few games for the MI franchise this season. He revealed that Mahela Jayawardene and other coaching staff gave him enough confidence to express himself on the field.

“Yeah. I would have loved to have contributed more in the first, first six games, first five games I've played. But the message has always been the same from the team. Mahela (Jayawardene) just wants me to go and express myself, put pressure on the opposition, and they've been very vocal, at training, and the message couldn't have been any clearer,” he concluded.

Mumbai Indians will next take on the Chennai Super Kings, led by MS Dhoni, on Sunday, April 20 at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.
