Former Indian cricketer Ravi Ashwin has reckoned that the Chennai Super Kings could bid for the opening batter Prithvi Shaw in the forthcoming IPL 2026 mini-auction, which is scheduled to take place in mid-December this year.
For the unversed, Shaw has amassed 1892 runs from 79 IPL innings at an average of 23.94 and a strike rate of 147.46. Interestingly, he has been part of the cash-rich league for seven seasons, playing only for the Delhi Capitals. However, he couldn’t find any bidders in the IPL 2025 Mega Auction.
Speaking on his YouTube channel, Ashwin asserted that with the skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad not opening the innings anymore, Shaw has a good chance of making it to the CSK set-up in the mini-auction.
“I won’t deny it, he’s definitely on the radar, everyone will say that I leaked inside information. I don’t have inside information; this is a random guess. Ruturaj Gaikwad doesn’t want to open. So, Prithvi Shaw’s doors are definitely open,” Ashwin said on his YouTube Channel.
“You look at all the players that CSK has picked in the past, the likes of Ajinkya Rahane, who went unsold; they value people with experience and skills,” he added.
“Shaw is a big tick box. Last year, he didn’t have a great time, but this year, he’s showing signs. Not just CSK, any team will want to use the opportunity to pick Shaw this year and make a statement. Talents like Shaw shouldn’t go to waste; he should be putting on display in front of a packed crowd,” he concluded.
Making his comeback in the Ranji Trophy 2025-26 season for Maharashtra, Shaw scored an impressive double century, scoring 222 runs against Chandigarh in the most recently concluded round.
