The Women’s World Cup 2025 is shaping up as a batter’s tournament, where pitches look true, line-ups are stacked, and every team has at least one player who can change a chase or rebuild an innings. As witnessed in the last Men’s World Cup hosted here, pitches favoured batters quite a lot, and tons of runs were scored by every team. Expect quite similar results in this upcoming tournament as well.

Here are five batters to put on your radar as they combine current form, match-winning temperament and the ability to turn pressure into big scores.

1. Smriti Mandhana (India)

Mandhana arrives with form and confidence. She reclaimed the ICC No.1 spot in the WODI batting rankings just before the tournament, a number that reflects recent big scores and consistency for India across home and neutral venues.

Mandhana’s natural timing and range make her ideal for World Cup pitches. She can anchor an innings or shift gears into explosive mode when required. Expect her to carry the batting tempo for India through the middle overs. With the tournament being held on friendly and accustomed pitches, she might turn out to be the highest run scorer by the end of the tournament.

2. Ellyse Perry (Australia)

Perry is one of the deadliest complete match-winners in women’s cricket currently, being destructive with the bat, useful with the ball and flamboyant on the field. Her record across white-ball cricket shows a long history of heavy-hitting and big tournament moments.

She’s the sort of player who can take an attack apart in 10 overs. Beyond raw power, Perry’s experience in world events and her capacity to rotate strike under pressure make her a constant danger. She was also in great form in the WPL held earlier this year and would be expected to continue from where she had left off. If Australia are to defend their title, Perry will have to lead the charge.

3. Nat Sciver-Brunt (England)

Sciver-Brunt combines timing, temperament and the knack for finishing games. She’s produced high-impact knocks and can accelerate the scoring rate without taking wild risks, which is a vital skill in important games. She has also been a vital cog in the Mumbai Indians Women’s team in the WPL and has produced several match-winning knocks with the bat as well as ball on these very pitches.

Her adaptability to bat anywhere in the top six gives England tactical flexibility, and she tends to deliver in pressure matches. Expect Sciver-Brunt to be England’s go-to batter when chases tighten and lead the English team from the front with her abilities.

4. Beth Mooney (Australia)

Mooney is three things World Cups demand, i.e. calm, intent and finishing skill. She’s built a reputation as one of the best chasers in women’s cricket, with the ability to pace a chase and accelerate late, when needed.

Australia’s batting depth means Mooney often comes in with a clear job, and she’s shown that she can turn that role into huge scores and match-winning stands. She has been one of the important reasons Australia has been one of the toughest teams to beat, even if you get early wickets.

5. Laura Wolvaardt (South Africa)

Wolvaardt brings technique and consistency. She doesn’t always hit the big headline shots, but she builds innings, converts starts and frustrates attacking bowling attacks, exactly what teams need in long tournaments.

She has been the most trustworthy batter for the African team. Her knack for long partnerships and rotating strike will be crucial for South Africa, especially when wickets fall early or when the pitch offers little assistance.
