Yashasvi Jaiswal will break Virender Sehwag’s triple century record: Ex-Indian cricketer

Former Indian cricketer and cricket analyst Mohammad Kaif has predicted that Yashasvi Jaiswal to break the former Indian opener Virender Sehwag’s triple century record in the longest format of the game. 

For the unversed, Virender Sehwag emerged as the first Indian batter to score a triple century in Tests. His 309-run knock came against Pakistan in Multan in 2004, while his 319-run knock came against South Africa in Chennai in 2008.

Taking to his official X handle, Kaif asserted that Jaiswal’s numbers are as good as modern-day greats Sachin Tendulkar and Virat Kohli. Moreover, he added that Jaiswal will break Virender Sehwag’s triple-century record in Test cricket. 

“Yashasvi Jaiswal is a batsman with the patience to score big hundreds and set new marks. In his first 26 matches, his numbers are as good as Sachin and Virat. Scoring at a high strike rate, his hundreds mostly put India on path to victory. Sehwag ka 300 wala record, Jaiswal hi todega,” Kaif wrote on X.

It’s important to note that Jaiswal scored an excellent 175-run knock off 258 balls with 22 fours before being involved in a run-out with Shubman Gill, to end his knock short of a double century by 25 runs.

Delving into the details of his Test stats, Jaiswal has amassed 2420 runs from 26 Tests at an average of 52.6 with seven hundreds and 12 half-centuries, with the highest individual score of 214* against England in Rajkot in February 2024.

After his dismissal, Gill went on to score 129* off 196 balls as India declared their innings on 518/5 in 134.2 overs. At the time of writing this article, the West Indies responded with 248 runs in 81.5 overs.
