"Rohit Sharma can play till 45" - Yograj Singh wants Indian skipper to focus on fitness

Yograj Singh, a former Indian player, has blasted Rohit Sharma's critics and stated that with the ability to perform on the biggest stage, the Indian ODI captain should continue playing for his country for another five years. 

Notably, Rohit put an end to his T20I career soon after India's World Cup success in June last year. Rohit also ended his Test career in May of this year. Only in ODIs does he continue to play as the team's captain and opening batsman. In March of this year, Rohit made his farewell appearance for India in the Champions Trophy final against New Zealand.

Yograj highlighted Rohit's 76-run game-winning innings in the Champions Trophy 2025 final against New Zealand to highlight the value of the seasoned opening batsman in the national ODI team. Yograj told News18 CricketNext, “The man about whom so many people speak rubbish, Rohit Sharma – I said that day that Rohit will be my man, the man, my man. The way he batted, his batting one side and the rest of the team’s batting on the other. That’s his class.”

“Rohit, aapki hume 5 saal aur zarurat hai yaar (Rohit, we need you for five more years, man). Please do more for your country, work on your fitness and everything. Put four men on him, make him run 10 kilometres every morning. He has the class to play till 45 years of age, if he wants,” Yograj further stated.

Yograj argues that Rohit's cricket career depends on his level of fitness. He believes that if the star opener is dedicated to rigorous training, he might easily prolong his career for many years to come. Yograj asserts that maintaining one's relevance in the global scene requires a combination of proper form and fitness. He added that Rohit frequently outperformed the rest of the Indian lineup due to his unparalleled batting talent.
