“I used to cry for 2 hours” - Yuzvendra Chahal opens up on divorce with Dhanashree Verma

Indian spinner Yuzvendra Chahal, who last played for Team India two years ago, has finally opened up on his separation and divorce with his ex-wife Dhanashree Verma, in a candid conversation on ‘Figuring Out with Raj Shamani’.

The ousted leg-spinner has now revealed that after seeing a lot of news surrounding the media during his divorce, he got suicidal thoughts and was tired of his life, crying for two hours a day and sleeping for only two hours.

“I had suicidal thoughts, I was tired of my life, I used to cry for 2 hours. I used to sleep for just 2 hours. It went for 40-45 days. I wanted a break from cricket,” Chahal said in an interview on Figuring Out with Raj Shamani.

“I was so busy with cricket. I was not able to concentrate. Used to share suicidal thoughts with my friend. I used to get scared,” he added.

Also, Chahal made it clear that he hasn’t cheated anyone in his life, adding that he lived with two sisters since his childhood and stated that he knows how to respect women as his parents taught him to respect everyone. 

“I think when my divorce happened, people accused me of being a cheater. I have never cheated in my life. I am not that kind of person. You won’t find anyone more loyal than me,” he noted.

“Because I have two sisters and have grown up with them since childhood, I know how to respect women, because my parents have taught me how to respect them. It is not necessary that if my name is being linked to someone, people get to write anything about it, only for views,” he asserted.

Notably, Chahal got married to a dance choreographer and YouTuber Dhanashree Verma in December 2020, got separated and divorced in March 2025, due to undisclosed reasons. However, rumours have been spreading about Chahal dating RJ Mahvash as the couple are seen in multiple public appearances.
