Yuzvendra Chahal, veteran Indian spinner, has lavished praise on Indian pacer Jasprit Bumrah, calling him a national treasure. This came after Bumrah’s performance in India’s close win over England in the T20 World Cup 2026 semi-final on March 5 in Mumbai.

In the second semi-final of the T20 World Cup 2026 at Mumbai on Thursday, March 5, India set a target of 254 runs for England.

After that, Bumrah claimed a wicket and gave up just 33 runs in his four overs as the reigning champions held the Harry Brook-led team to 246/7, winning by seven runs to secure their place in the final against New Zealand.

"You don't call Jasprit Bumrah an Indian treasure just like that. Rohit Sharma said that in 2024, at the Wankhede Stadium itself, when the trophy was here. He is an incredible guy. You should wash his hands and feet and drink. He is the guy who is standing 100 percent," Chahal stated on JioHotStar.

Chahal stated that India couldn’t have won the match without Bumrah’s bowling heroics. He also praised Hardik Pandya for his death overs bowling.

"If Bumrah had not been there today (Thursday), India wouldn't have been in the final. Also, the 19th over, Hardik Pandya, the first ball went for a six, and you know how much pressure would have been there, but Hardik had bowled the 20th over in 2024 and won India the match, so he knows how and what needs to be done," Chahal observed.

In the final three overs of the T20 World Cup 2026 semifinal, England needed 45 runs. Hardik Pandya gave up just nine runs in the following over, while Jasprit Bumrah gave up just six in the 18th over. This left England with the difficult goal of scoring thirty runs off the final over, which they were unable to accomplish.

Yuzvendra Chahal picked out Jasprit Bumrah’s dismissal of Harry Brook as the turning point of the match. Brook was dismissed for 7 runs as he fell on a slower ball by Bumrah, with Axar Patel taking a brilliant catch.

"That's why he is considered a bowler different from everyone else. No one comes close to him. Just like you consider me the spin grandmaster, he is the true fast-bowling grandmaster.

He picks everything very quickly. He has played here a lot, but to deliver, that he would bowl the slower ball, and for it to fall at the right spot, for it to drift and dip, that is extremely necessary, and you saw that on the first ball. He showed that he was ready from the first ball," Chahal added.
