Zaheer Khan picks his top 5 ODI bowlers of all-time

Former Indian pacer and analyst Zaheer Khan has come up with a list of the top 5 ODI bowlers of all time. Interestingly, he has picked two former Pakistani pacers in his all-time list while the other three are from Australia, South Africa, and Sri Lanka.

Speaking in an exclusive conversation with Cricbuzz, the former seamer stated Wasim Akram as his top pacer for creating a lot of impact in the 50-over format during his time. Later, he picked former Australia pacer Glenn McGrath.

“Wasim Akram is impactful in this format with his variations, yorkers, slower ones, around the wicket, and over the wicket. In this format, he has had a huge impact,” Zaheer Khan told Cricbuzz in an exclusive video.

“Another name which I really looked up to also was Glenn McGrath. With the accuracy which he had, the simplicity in the action, and that extra bounce and impact with the new ball, it is something which was very evident right throughout his career, across all formats,” he added.

Next up on the list is another former Pakistani seamer Waqar Younis, who played 262 ODIs, scalping 416 wickets. He had scalped a total of 13 five-wicket hauls, which was the main talking point. Later, he picked up former Lankan pacer Chaminda Vaas and Proteas seamer Dale Steyn on his list.

“Waqar Younis as well, if you look at his numbers, he is right up there, especially his fifers. His striking ability was impactful. Mainly the modern-day bowlers should take a cue from him of having a fearless approach,” Zaheer explained.

“Dale Steyn is someone who we all know with his fiery approach, with his fast outswingers, is something, you know, which impact was always there. He used to get through that crease very fast and had impact through and through,” Zaheer concluded.
