Zimbabwe are gearing up to host Ireland in a multi-format series, which includes a one-off Test match followed by a three-match ODI and T20I series. This will mark the first time Zimbabwe will host Ireland in a Test match. Both teams have announced their squads, setting the stage for a historic encounter.
This will only be the second time the two sides meet in the longest format, with Ireland having won their first-ever Test clash against Zimbabwe at home in 2024. The Irish come into this match with momentum, having won their last two Tests, including a superb victory over Afghanistan in the UAE.
In contrast, Zimbabwe recently suffered a 1-0 Test series defeat at home against Afghanistan. Zimbabwe will be without star all-rounder Sikandar Raza, who had already committed to franchise cricket before the tour schedule was finalised.
However, they have received a major boost with the return of experienced all-rounder Sean Williams, who missed the Afghanistan series due to a back injury. The hosts have also rewarded strong domestic performances by handing call-ups to uncapped players Vincent Masekesa, a 27-year-old leg-spinner, and Nicholas Welch, a 26-year-old top-order batter.
For Ireland, 25-year-old top-order batter Morgan Topping has earned his maiden Test call-up after consistently impressing at club level. Spinner Gavin Hoey is also in line for a Test debut, with Topping and Hoey being the only uncapped players in Ireland's squad.
