Chiranjeevi Faces Backlash Over Sexist Remark, Fans Call for Boycott

When the Internet pointed out the underlying sexist implications in megastar Chiranjeevi's seemingly lighthearted comments about his desire to have a grandchild and his preoccupation with a male child to continue his offspring, the comments took an unexpected turn.

Recently, Chiranjeevi received an invitation to attend Brahma Anandam's pre-release function as the Chief Guest. As the warden, Chiranjeevi claimed to have felt as though he was living in a women's hostel when he was at the event. Why? At home, he is surrounded by ladies.

Chiranjeevi stated during the occasion that he feels as if he is living in a ladies' hostel because he is surrounded by women at home and he is their warden. Additionally, he stated that he hopes to have a grandchild to carry on his family's tradition. He said, "When I'm at home, it doesn't feel like I'm surrounded by my granddaughters; it feels like I'm a ladies' hostel warden, surrounded by ladies all around. I keep wishing and telling (Ram) Charan, at least this time, to have a boy so that our legacy continues, but his daughter is the apple of his eye..."

The actor added that he fears his son Ram Charan will have a daughter for the second time as well. He stated, "I'm scared that he might have a girl again." For those who are unaware, in June 2023, Ram Charan and his wife Upasana welcomed a daughter, Klin Kaara. Chiranjeevi has two daughters, Sushmita Konidela and Sreeja Konidela, in addition to her son, Ram Charan. Sushmita and Sreeja each have two daughters: Samara and Samhitha, and Nivrati and Naviksha, respectively. Chiranjeevi has drawn a lot of criticism for his remarks regarding his legacy and his request for a male heir from Ram Charan. In 1980, Chiranjeevi and Surekha were married.
